Stone Lacquering


In this article you can read about using stone product care, which is lacquer. We use the lacquer when our countertop became dull and for outside stones. Lacquer gives additional protection against stains and high gloss look and enriches color. Lacquer application makes additional protection against stains and gives a high gloss look and enriches color.

 

Where I can use lacquer for stone.

Recommended surfaces for lacquering are: natural stone, masonry and concrete for:

  • outdoor patios,
  • walkways,
  • driveways,
  • garage floors,
  • concrete slabs,
  • sidewalks,
  • retaining walls,
  • BBQ areas

Not recommended surfaces for use lacquer:

  • dense,
  • glazed,
  • polished,
  • all non-absorbing surfaces (ceramic tile, porcelain tile)

How to perform a stone lacquering

Application of lacquer is recommended for professional use only.

  • Clean and dry the stone from previously used lacquers and other coatings. Use specific, heavy duty cleaner or regular stone cleaner and after that, acetone. (Warning: with wrong perform this point you can damage your stone)
  • Seal the surface, if you not done so ready. Sealing protect your stone against stains and damages.
  • Polish the surface (use grinder or polisher).
  • Apply the lacquer. You May need to put few more coats, after allowing lacquer to dry. (1-3h).

Lacquered surface may be slippery when wet.

 

Natural stones are rarely lacquered. For granite countertop we will use sealer. We would lacquer the dull countertop or outside stones, when we wanted to get a high gloss and greater protection. Typically, such works is carried out by specialist. We do not recommend performing it yourself.
